Cart and checkout: reducing abandoned carts

A significant share of orders is lost not on the product page but on the checkout form. Here is which checkout steps scare shoppers away in Uzbekistan.

Guest checkout is non-negotiable

Requiring registration before checkout is one of the most reliable ways to lose a customer. Guest checkout with minimal fields should always be available, with registration optional after purchase.

Name, phone and delivery address are enough. Email can be made optional — many customers in Uzbekistan barely use it day to day.

Transparency of the final total

Delivery cost and any extra fees must be visible before the final payment step, not appear as a surprise on the last screen. An unexpected total is a common reason orders get abandoned right there.

Show a running subtotal at every cart step: item count, item cost, delivery, and final total as separate lines.

Number of steps and form fields

The optimal checkout is one or two screens, not five sequential steps. Every extra form field statistically lowers order completion.

Autofilling city and district from a dropdown rather than free text reduces address errors and speeds up mobile completion.

Abandoned cart reminders

If a customer left a phone number or started checkout but didn't finish, an automatic Telegram or SMS reminder an hour or two later recovers a noticeable share of those orders.

Avoid turning the reminder into a pushy sequence — one message with a direct link back to the cart is usually enough.
