Optimising click and lead costs in highly competitive niches
In a competitive vertical you cannot outbid everyone — the budget runs out first. What you can influence is everything standing next to the bid in the auction.
Why clicks are expensive and what you control
Auction position is not the bid alone: it is multiplied by quality score, which folds in expected CTR, ad relevance to the query and landing page quality. Two advertisers with identical bids pay different prices for the same slot.
That is where the leverage sits. You can raise a bid once and hit your budget ceiling; quality score improves continuously and lowers click cost without extra spend.
Expensive verticals in Uzbekistan are predictable: real estate and new builds, medicine, legal services, automotive, renovation, equipment supply. A handful of large players keep bids high and clicks can cost several times more than in everyday services.
Account structure as a cost lever
Tight ad groups beat broad ones. One group, one closely related query theme, and an ad that repeats that theme almost verbatim. Relevance rises, CTR rises, click cost falls.
Split high-intent and mid-intent queries into separate campaigns with separate budgets. 'Buy an apartment in Mirzo-Ulugbek district' and 'apartments in Tashkent' represent different decision stages and different acceptable click prices; in one campaign the second eats the first's budget.
Keep brand queries separate always. They are cheap and convert well, and inside a shared campaign they mask the real economics of every other group.
Ads and extensions
In an expensive auction the winning ad answers an objection before the competitor does: timeline, price from, district, licence held, instalments, warranty. Generic phrasing like 'quality and affordable' costs you money on every click.
Fill every available extension: sitelinks, callouts, phone number, address. Extensions increase ad real estate and CTR, which indirectly lowers click cost.
For this market, include the contact methods people actually use: phone and Telegram. Mentioning Telegram in the description often lifts response because it matches audience habit.
Bidding strategies and when to automate
Manual bidding or maximise clicks makes sense at launch while conversions are scarce. Target-CPA style automation needs accumulated data — usually dozens of conversions a month, or the algorithm is flying blind.
A common mistake is switching strategy weekly. Every switch restarts the learning period, so the campaign spends months learning and performing poorly. Leave a strategy alone for at least two weeks.
Another is setting a target CPA far below the actual figure. The algorithm simply stops spending. Lower targets in 10–15% steps with pauses to accumulate data.
Working on lead cost, not click cost
A cheap click on a weak landing page produces an expensive lead. The fastest gains often come from the page rather than the ad account: mobile load speed, a short form, a visible phone number, a Telegram button, a clear price or range.
Check the whole route: click, page, enquiry, response. If enquiries are answered hours later, some leads have already gone to a competitor, and the report simply reads as 'expensive advertising'.
Locally a significant share of enquiries arrive not through the form but by call or message on Telegram and Instagram. Ignore those channels and your reported lead cost is inflated, and decisions get made on wrong data.
When switching entry points beats optimising
If clicks are expensive and the average order value is modest, the arithmetic may not work under any optimisation. The honest conclusion is that this channel is not the primary one, and budget belongs in local SEO, map listings and repeat sales.
A second option is moving to a less contested slice of demand: narrow services, specific districts, Uzbek-language queries that large players often ignore entirely.
A third is working the existing contact base. A repeat enquiry from your own Telegram base costs a fraction of a new competitive click — provided somebody actually maintains that base.
