A startup logo: budget-friendly and professional

A startup rarely has a budget for full branding at launch, and that's fine. The question isn't how to save on everything, but what can be cut and what can't.

What you can save on

At launch there is no need for a full identity with a dozen assets — a logo, two or three colours and one type pair are enough. A presentation, signage, branded packaging can wait until it's clear which direction the product is even heading.

There's no need for dozens of sketches and many revision rounds — early on a startup itself doesn't fully understand its audience and positioning yet, and the logo will almost certainly be revisited after the first market feedback.

What you cannot save on

Vector sources are essential from day one — skipping them means the logo has to be redrawn from scratch at the first scale or medium change, instead of adapting an existing file.

Checking for uniqueness and conflicts with existing names and marks is cheap to do early, while the brand is still unrecognised; rebranding after the name has appeared in front of investors and press costs an order of magnitude more.

A realistic budget

An entry-level freelance startup logo runs 800,000 – 1,500,000 UZS on a short 3–5 day timeline. It's not full studio work with deep research, but with a clear brief from the startup itself the result is genuinely usable.

A smarter spend at launch is not a pricier logo but budgeting for its revision in 6–12 months, once the product and audience are clearer. Planning for two cheap cycles beats one expensive final one.

How not to lose quality while saving

Write as specific a brief as possible: field, audience, three competitor references, and where the logo will be used first. A clear brief compensates for a limited budget almost entirely — most of a designer's time goes not into drawing but into guessing what wasn't said.

Ask to see the sketch applied, not as an isolated picture — on an avatar and in a single colour. This free check catches the most common budget-logo problem early: details that vanish at a smaller size.
