Facebook vs Instagram ads: the difference and which to choose
Facebook and Instagram share one Meta ad account, but they are not the same audience or the same ad. Here's where each platform is stronger and how to decide whether you need both.
Different audiences, even in one country
In Uzbekistan, Instagram's active audience skews noticeably younger and more visual — people come to watch, not read. Facebook holds an older, more professional audience, including business decision-makers, and text-heavy, informational formats perform better there.
For emotionally driven purchases — clothing, cafés, beauty, education for a young audience — Instagram usually delivers more engagement for the same budget. For B2B, premium real estate and services aimed at an older audience, Facebook is often an underrated channel simply because fewer advertisers put budget there.
It's easy to test for your niche: run the same campaign split across both placements and check the placement breakdown after a week — Meta will show where cheaper, higher-quality leads come from.
Format and messaging differences
Instagram is dominated by reels and stories — short, vertical, fast, where the first two seconds decide whether someone watches on. Facebook still rewards longer text posts with links and comment discussion, a format that barely gets read on Instagram.
The same campaign run identically on both usually underperforms adapted versions: vertical video with minimal on-screen text for Instagram, longer ad copy for Facebook where people actually read it.
Lead forms without a website work equally well technically on both, but Instagram sees a higher share of mobile traffic, so forms should stay to two or three fields.
When one platform is enough
With a limited budget — up to 2M UZS per month — it's usually smarter to concentrate on one platform rather than split it. For a visual product with a young audience, that's almost always Instagram.
Consider Facebook separately if you have a B2B product, a complex service that needs explaining, or an audience over 35-40 — concentrating solely on Instagram loses a meaningful share of potential customers there.
When you need both
At 3M UZS per month and above, it's worth testing both platforms in parallel and keeping whichever shows the better cost per lead rather than guessing upfront — the gap between niches is large and hard to predict.
Meta's automatic placement distribution (Advantage+ placements) often finds the optimal balance faster than manual selection, especially early on before there's a conversion history to lean on.
