SEO for Google or Yandex: where should a business in Uzbekistan focus

In Uzbekistan this is not a preference question but an audience-share question — and the share has shifted toward Google more sharply in recent years than most assume.

Who actually searches where

Google holds the vast majority of search traffic in Uzbekistan, especially on mobile devices, which make up most internet access. Yandex retains a noticeable but substantially smaller audience share, mostly among older users and in select niches.

Before investing in one system, check your own site's analytics — Google Analytics or Yandex.Metrica — to see where visitors in your specific niche actually come from, rather than relying on market-wide averages.

How the algorithms differ

Google leans more on link profile, internet-wide behavioural signals and technical quality — speed, mobile adaptation, structured data. Yandex has historically weighted commercial factors and regional relevance more heavily, and handles Russian morphology well even for loosely matching query forms.

In practice, a well-optimised site with quality content and a sound technical base almost always ranks in both systems at once — the fundamental requirements overlap roughly eighty percent.

Where to place separate emphasis

For Google, page speed, Schema.org markup, quality backlinks and readiness for voice and AI search matter most. For Yandex, invest more in a complete Yandex.Business listing, on-page commercial signals — prices, delivery terms, reviews — and headings matching conversational query phrasing.

Uzbekistan's Russian-speaking audience segment usually overlaps both systems, so splitting content by language and search engine is rarely necessary — one well-written text serves both algorithms.

The practical verdict

For most businesses in Uzbekistan, the right answer is not choosing one system but building an SEO foundation that satisfies both: technical cleanliness, useful content, local relevance through listings on both services, and a natural link profile.

A separate Yandex-specific strategy only makes sense for niches with a clearly older or specific audience where analytics show a meaningful share of traffic from there — everywhere else, focusing on Google delivers more volume for the same budget.
