Website maintenance cost: what the monthly fee buys
Maintenance is the first line cut from a budget — and the reason a site needs rebuilding from scratch a year later.
What maintenance actually is
A regular routine: CMS and module updates, backups, domain and SSL renewal, uptime monitoring, form checks, small content edits.
Left alone for six months a site quietly accumulates an outdated CMS with a security hole, an expired certificate, a contact form broken by a browser update — each small, each discovered while you are losing enquiries.
Maintenance is not new development
Maintenance keeps the site running. A calculator, a CRM integration or a new service page is new work and should be estimated separately.
A fixed monthly fee plus hourly estimates for new tasks avoids the endless argument about whether a new form is 'included'.
What the contract must state
The included scope, the monthly hours or edits and what happens to unused ones, and response times for a down site versus a routine request.
Also the channel — usually Telegram here — with a rule that a request counts as accepted once acknowledged, not once sent.
