WordPress still powers a huge share of the web. That is simultaneously its main advantage and the source of nearly all its problems.
What WordPress gives you
A familiar admin panel, thousands of plugins, and a deep talent market. If your contractor disappears tomorrow, a WordPress replacement takes a week; a rare framework takes a month and costs more.
For a corporate site with news, a blog and service pages it remains a rational choice: a standard problem with a settled solution and predictable maintenance costs.
What it costs you
Every plugin is third-party code in your site, pulling its own scripts and updating on its own schedule. A site on fifteen plugins is almost inevitably slow.
Ubiquity is also a security risk: vulnerabilities in popular plugins are hunted deliberately because one hole opens hundreds of thousands of sites.
The honest verdict
If your site is service pages, a blog and a contact form, custom development is usually overspending — the same money in content and ads produces more enquiries.
And do not rewrite a working site because 'WordPress is dated'. Measure first: if the problem is three heavy plugins and unoptimised images, that is a week of work, not a new project.
