Uzbek-language SEO: an underrated traffic source

Most companies in Tashkent optimise only for Russian. Uzbek-language results are markedly less competitive, and that is an opportunity.

Why the Uzbek version pays off

Across many commercial topics, competition in Uzbek is lower than in Russian simply because fewer quality pages exist. Ranking is often faster and cheaper.

The audience is large, particularly in the regions and among younger users.

Latin or Cyrillic

Latin script is the primary choice for the web: official communication and most search queries use it. Cyrillic appears less often, mainly among older users.

A practical approach: build the main version in Latin and reflect important Cyrillic query variants naturally in the text, without a third site version.

Rewrite rather than translate

A literal translation of the Russian page produces text that does not match how Uzbek queries are actually phrased, so it does not rank for them.

The right approach is to research Uzbek keywords separately and write the page around them. Same offer, different phrasing and structure.

Linking versions technically

Each language version needs its own URL. A translation widget over the Russian version creates no indexable pages and delivers no SEO value.

Correct hreflang between all versions plus x-default is mandatory, otherwise Google may serve the Russian page to an Uzbek-language searcher.
